Building Trust Through Dialogue: Manipur Chief Ministers Vision

Imphal, May 14: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh stated on Thursday that dialogue can bridge the trust deficit among communities. He cited the example of Jiribam district, where diverse communities now coexist harmoniously.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the government will address the grievances of displaced individuals affected by ethnic violence and will increase financial assistance for rebuilding homes destroyed during the unrest.

As part of his ongoing efforts to promote peace and foster trust among communities, Singh visited the hill village of Kangchup Chingkhong in Imphal West district and engaged with displaced persons.

He assured them of a safe return to their homes and villages, promising adequate security upon their return. Singh also informed them that a permanent shelter for security personnel would soon be constructed in the area.

Earlier, Singh distributed one-time grants to 754 displaced college students under the Chief Minister’s College Student Rehabilitation Scheme at Imphal College in Imphal West.

He also met with injured Tangkhul Naga villagers receiving treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal West. These villagers were injured in a recent attack by armed assailants in Sinakeithei, under the Ukhrul district’s Liton police station.

Later in the evening, the Chief Minister visited a hospital in Imphal West and spoke with two Chiru Naga tribals injured in an armed attack near Jaujangtek in Noney district on Wednesday. He assured that the government would cover all medical expenses for the injured civilians.

During discussions with internally displaced persons, the Chief Minister announced the approval of ₹1.2 crore for strengthening village roads and ₹1.94 crore for the construction of a water supply scheme.
