IT Sector Embraces Carpooling and Work From Home in Response to PM Modis Appeal

Surat, May 14: The IT sector has positively responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and national service. In Surat and across Gujarat’s IT hub, ‘work from home’ and ‘carpooling’ have emerged as new tools for serving the nation.

Kunal Shah, CEO of IT company Biz Insights, shared in an interview that the company has made significant changes in light of the Prime Minister’s call. “We have allowed about 70% of our staff to work from home. Only employees working on critical projects are required to come to the office. This not only saves time for employees but has also significantly reduced fuel consumption,” he stated.

He further emphasized the need for collaboration over competition during these times. The company is providing freelance opportunities to young individuals currently without jobs, ensuring that economic activities continue.

Young professionals in the IT sector are fully engaging in this initiative. Jasmine Parmar mentioned, “I now use public transport or carpool with colleagues for my commute from Bardoli to the Surat office. This has helped save on petrol costs.”

Dhruvi added, “Our family now discusses using one vehicle instead of multiple cars when traveling the same route. Small changes are contributing to the conservation of the country’s resources.”

Intern Kartik noted, “Using public transport or carpooling not only reduces personal expenses but also helps conserve the nation’s fuel. We are now prioritizing public transport even for personal outings, like trips to water parks.”

This shift among IT companies extends beyond just fuel savings. It is also reducing traffic, lowering pollution levels, and improving employees’ work-life balance. Many other IT firms are preparing to adopt this model as well.
