Government Increases MSP for 14 Kharif Crops, Farmers Celebrate

Mumbai, May 14: In a significant move, the Central Government has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 major Kharif crops during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This decision has sparked joy among farmers across the nation, who view it as a fair return for their hard work.

The government’s initiative aims to not only cover costs but also enhance farmers’ incomes. Small and marginal farmers are expected to benefit the most. Additionally, promoting the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds will help reduce the country’s dependence on imports. Farmers believe this decision will make agriculture more profitable and appealing.

Mukeshbhai Kapdi, a farmer from Tharad, shared, “The purchase of crops under MSP is directly benefiting us. The market rate was ₹1,000 per quintal, but now we receive ₹1,500 directly in our bank accounts. This is enriching farmers.”

Another farmer, Dineshbhai Kapdi, noted, “Under PM Modi’s leadership, the purchase of grains at MSP is happening. Previously, traders set their own rates in open markets, but the fixed MSP is significantly higher. The money goes directly to farmers’ accounts, ensuring we don’t incur losses. The fixed minimum price for crops is very beneficial.”

Haribhai Patel praised the initiative, stating, “The increase in MSP directly benefits farmers. The Modi government is farmer-friendly.”

Farmers are calling this decision a relief. They assert that the MSP increase guarantees them fair prices even if market rates drop. This will not only strengthen their economic condition but also boost investment in the agricultural sector. The central government’s decision is seen as a crucial step towards achieving the goal of doubling farmers’ incomes.
