
Guwahati, May 14: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted a review of the state’s development and heritage initiatives on Thursday. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of various key projects and emphasized the need for accelerated work in the coming days. This information was shared via a post on the social media platform X.
Regarding electricity supply preparations, the Chief Minister noted that Assam’s peak electricity demand last year was 2,950 megawatts, which is expected to rise to approximately 3,100 megawatts this summer. The state is fully prepared to meet this increasing demand.
He has instructed all three power distribution companies in Assam to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. Additionally, the progress of thermal, solar, and pump storage projects has been reviewed to maintain Assam’s status as a power surplus state in the future.
Chief Minister Sarma also discussed the progress of the Kamakhya Access Corridor Project associated with the Kamakhya Temple. He mentioned that most legal processes are now complete, which will expedite construction work in the coming days. This project aims to enhance facilities and experiences for the temple’s visitors.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister reviewed the status of investment proposals exceeding ₹5 lakh crore received under the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ initiative in February 2025. He expressed happiness that over 60% of these investment commitments are in advanced stages of implementation, with some already operational. He has directed that the implementation process be expedited. In the coming months, he will personally reach out to industry leaders and all stakeholders to ensure these investments are fully realized. Once completed, these projects are expected to be game changers for Assam.
The Chief Minister added, “I am satisfied with the progress made in all sectors during the previous term. With renewed enthusiasm, I look forward to further accelerating the state’s development pace in the coming days.”
