Indian Minister Paves the Way for Stronger Ties with Belize

Belmopan, May 14: Indian Minister of State, Pavitri Margerita, met with Dame Froyla Tzalam, the Governor-General of Belize, on Thursday. During her official visit to Belize, Minister Margerita discussed ways to strengthen the relationship between India and Belize.

Margerita expressed her pleasure at meeting Dame Froyla Tzalam and conveyed greetings from the President and Prime Minister of India. She emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.

Additionally, she met with members of the Indian community residing in Belize, acknowledging their contributions to fostering friendly ties between the two countries. “The Indian community acts as a vital link between our nations,” Margerita stated.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during her visit, Margerita will meet several leaders from the Belizean government and tour sites related to India’s development projects.

Before arriving in Belize, she completed a visit to Honduras. In Honduras, she engaged with the Indian community and alumni of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program, praising their role in strengthening ties between the two countries.

On Tuesday, Margerita met with Honduran Foreign Minister Mireya Aguero. The two leaders reviewed the progress in India-Honduras relations and agreed to further enhance mutual cooperation.

She also met with Honduras’ first Vice President, Maria Antonieta Mejia, where both parties discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations.

Margerita is on an official tour of Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize, and the Commonwealth of Dominica from May 8 to 15. According to the MEA, in the final phase of her tour, she will meet with leaders from Dominica to discuss all aspects of the relationship between the two countries. She will also visit projects funded by India’s economic assistance. This marks the first ministerial-level visit from India to Dominica since October 2018.
