Jaipur, May 1: A dispute involving a BJP legislator and officials from the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP) escalated on Friday in Shri Ganganagar. An assistant engineer accused the legislator of physical assault and displayed his injuries during a press conference. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot labeled the incident as serious.
Gehlot stated that on Thursday, BJP legislator Jaydeep Bihani accused RUIDP officials of assault. However, the situation intensified on Friday when the officials held a press conference to accuse the legislator of assault and showcased their injuries to the media.
“This is an extremely serious and unfortunate incident. The need for government officials to come forward to make accusations and display injuries raises many questions,” Gehlot remarked.
He emphasized the sensitivity of the case, noting that one of the involved officials belongs to the Dalit community. “Any incident involving a member of the Dalit community should be treated with utmost seriousness and sensitivity,” he added.
Gehlot urged the state government to intervene immediately and conduct a fair and transparent investigation. “The government must take this matter seriously and ensure a fair inquiry to uncover the truth. Strict action should be taken against anyone found guilty,” he stated.
The conflict in Shri Ganganagar arose between BJP legislator Jaydeep Bihani and RUIDP assistant engineer Jagannalal Bairwa. On Friday, Bairwa alleged that he was assaulted.
He claimed, “The legislator kicked me and beat me with a pipe. I was made to wear a new shirt before being presented to the police.”
L&T manager Shahnawaz Hasan and engineer Soham Parmar were also granted bail on Friday. After their release, all three spoke to the media at the district council office.
Bairwa appeared before the media in a torn vest, displaying his injuries and alleging that after the assault, he was made to wear a new shirt to downplay the incident.
He recounted that on Thursday morning, executive engineer Monindrjeet Singh and AEN Krishna Dhariwal summoned him to the BJP legislator’s service center located in the S.D. Bihani College campus.
On Friday morning, around 11:30 AM, he received a call from the legislator’s number, urging him to come immediately.
“When I arrived with Shahnawaz Hasan and Soham Parmar, the legislator was sitting in his car. As soon as I approached him, he began slapping me and hurling abuses. His supporters then threw me to the ground, kicked me, and beat me with a pipe,” Bairwa recounted.
Bairwa has filed a complaint demanding strict action against BJP legislator Jaydeep Bihani and his supporters. The Rajasthan Diploma Engineers Council condemned the incident.
Council president Balram Jakhar alleged that engineers were summoned under the pretext of a meeting, only to be assaulted. He claimed that their phones were confiscated to prevent recording the incident.
He warned that if justice is not served promptly, engineers across Rajasthan would boycott work and initiate a statewide movement.
This controversy emerged during legislator Jaydeep Bihani’s public hearing. However, Bihani has also accused the officials of assault and filed a complaint.
