Murshidabad, May 24: Amid ongoing controversy regarding his remarks on the sacrifice of cattle, Humayun Kabir has addressed the questions raised against him and the call for his arrest by Islamic scholar Haji Mohammad Parvez Siddiqui. Kabir stated that he is not affected by individual opinions and will continue to assert his rights. He believes the issue is being unnecessarily escalated.
Haji Siddiqui had objected to Kabir’s statement about sacrificing cattle during Bakrid, suggesting that those who speak against the law should be arrested and face strict action.
In response to Siddiqui’s comments, former Trinamool leader and MLA Humayun Kabir remarked, “Who is he? I don’t need to respond to his comments. Regardless of who he is, as a Muslim, my rights are protected by the Constitution, which allows me to practice my religion. I will continue to exercise that right. Who is he to speak about me? He is not significant enough for me to heed his every word.”
Kabir also mentioned that the controversy surrounding the holiday for Bakrid is unwarranted. He stated that it is merely a one-day affair, and whatever day the government declares as a holiday will be accepted. “For me, the sacrifice is on the 28th. If there is a holiday on that day, fine. If the government changes the holiday, it won’t be a problem. Even if there is no holiday, it won’t create any major issues,” he added.
