At night, many experience dry mouths and frequent thirst, leading to multiple trips for water. This issue is not merely a common occurrence; it indicates an internal imbalance within the body.
Dryness at night and persistent thirst, even after drinking water, are signs of fluid imbalance. Various factors can contribute to this, both internal and external, including excessive stress, late-night eating, consumption of fried foods, and significant dehydration.
According to Ayurveda, this condition is linked to an imbalance of the Vata and Pitta doshas. Such an imbalance can elevate body heat and digestive issues, resulting in discomfort. To calm Vata, it is recommended to consume warm, liquid, and nutritious foods, while cooling the body can help reduce Pitta.
Ayurveda suggests consuming licorice (mulethi) to address this issue. Sucking on pieces of licorice helps maintain moisture in the mouth and stimulates saliva production. Licorice also aids in soothing the throat and improving digestion. Additionally, drinking coconut water can help cool the body from within and balance Pitta levels. Staying hydrated can alleviate the discomfort of frequent thirst and dry mouth.
Ayurveda also recommends rinsing the mouth with Triphala. This practice reduces dryness and helps retain moisture in the mouth. Furthermore, consuming ghee in moderation can assist in maintaining body moisture and facilitating digestion.
