Mumbai, May 29: A shocking incident unfolded at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, where a newborn was discovered abandoned in a bathroom. The baby’s cries alerted staff, ultimately saving its life.
Following the incident, both hospital administration and police were thrown into a frenzy. The Tilak Nagar police have registered a case and are actively searching for the mother who abandoned the infant.
According to Mumbai police, on the night of May 25, police constable Jitendra Vishnu Patil was on duty at the casualty department of Rajawadi Hospital. Around 9 PM, a young man named Vishnu Shriram Patel approached him in a distressed state, reporting that a newborn was crying in the bathroom near Ward 40.
Upon receiving the information, officers rushed to the scene. They were taken aback by the sight: a newborn baby lay helplessly on the cold floor, crying continuously. Nurses were immediately called to assist. With the help of the nursing staff and Patel, the baby was cleaned and promptly admitted to the NICU.
Doctors confirmed that timely medical intervention saved the newborn’s life. The infant is currently in stable condition and under medical supervision.
Initial investigations revealed no record of a woman giving birth at the hospital, raising suspicions that an unidentified woman may have given birth in the bathroom and fled the scene.
Mumbai police have filed a case against the unknown woman and have begun their investigation. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital premises to identify the mother.
Currently, the newborn is safe, and police are diligently searching for the woman who abandoned the child.
