Beijing, May 29: The spokesperson for the Chinese Defense Ministry, Yang Pin, commented on May 28 regarding the recent joint military exercises conducted by the United States and Japan in the southwestern islands. He warned that a “new type of militarism” in East Asia could lead to chaos, urging all peace-loving nations not to allow Japan to continue its insidious actions.
Yang emphasized that China has consistently maintained that military cooperation among relevant countries should not harm the interests of third parties, nor should it jeopardize regional peace and stability. He noted that Japanese right-wing forces are making dangerous advancements and provocative tests in military and security sectors, which could result in chaos in East Asia.
In response to a journalist’s question about Japan’s announcement to enhance its space defense capabilities, Yang stated that Japan has been increasingly moving down the path of military expansion in recent years. This includes gradually breaking the limits of its pacifist constitution and deploying large-scale military forces in space. He highlighted that Japan’s ruling officials have continuously increased financial investments in space, conducted joint military exercises with other countries, developed a military intelligence system for space, and attempted to develop and deploy space weapons under the guise of defense. This trend raises the risk of militarization and an arms race in space, negatively impacting global strategic stability.
