
New York, May 29: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday.
During the meeting, Wang Yi highlighted the success of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China. He noted that this visit resulted in several significant new agreements between the two nations, elevating the construction of a shared future community between China and Pakistan to new heights. He emphasized Pakistan’s active participation in the United Nations Security Council and the “Global Governance Friends Group,” which sends a strong message for enhancing the UN’s role and improving global governance.
Wang Yi stated that the friendly cooperation between China and Pakistan is comprehensive, all-weather, and spans all sectors. Both countries consistently trust each other in bilateral, regional, and international matters. He expressed China’s readiness to maintain high-level exchanges with Pakistan, deepen political trust, expand practical cooperation, and advance the construction of a closer China-Pakistan shared future community in the new era.
Ishaq Dar remarked that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s trip to China was extremely successful, showcasing the deep friendship between the two nations. He pointed out that the current multilateral system is weakening and requires urgent reform. According to him, China’s initiative to convene a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council was timely and received support from all parties involved.
Dar also mentioned the establishment of the International Court of Arbitration in Hong Kong, which promotes mediation over litigation. He affirmed that Pakistan will continue to support various initiatives from China.
Both leaders discussed the situation in Iran as well. Wang Yi noted that Pakistan could play a reliable mediator role in the talks between the US and Iran, with China supporting its peace efforts. Meanwhile, Ishaq Dar stated that the five-point initiative between China and Pakistan has garnered widespread support, and Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in reducing tensions and calming the situation in the region.
