Mumbai, May 29: The tragic incident of poisonous alcohol in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune has devastated numerous families, with reports indicating over 12 fatalities. The opposition has launched a fierce attack, asserting that these deaths are not merely due to consuming toxic alcohol, but are acts of murder. They demand strict action against those responsible for these deaths.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde stated, “The deaths from consuming poisonous alcohol in Pimpri-Chinchwad are a very tragic event. I will not say that these deaths occurred solely due to toxic alcohol consumption; rather, they are murders. Those responsible for these deaths should face severe punishment.”
Congress leader Naseem Khan spoke during an interview on Friday, saying, “A very unfortunate incident has occurred in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad, with reports of multiple fatalities. Many individuals are in serious condition and have been hospitalized. The question is, why did this happen? How long has toxic alcohol been produced there? What are the local authorities doing?”
Khan raised concerns about the shocking nature of such incidents in a district like Pune. He questioned, “If illegal alcohol production is happening within police jurisdiction, who is ultimately responsible?” He emphasized that someone must take accountability. He suggested suspending the officials under whose jurisdiction this incident occurred and providing adequate compensation to the families of the deceased and those hospitalized.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Shankar Jagtap described the event as horrific. “We assessed the situation and gathered information, revealing that around 10-12 people have died. Chemicals were mixed into the alcohol. Our department has initiated action against the accused, with some arrests made, and further investigations are ongoing.”
