8-Year-Old Girl from Palanpur Reaches Everest Base Camp, Spreading Yoga Message

Gandhinagar, May 29: An 8-year-old girl from Palanpur, Niksha Barot, has achieved a remarkable feat by successfully completing the world-renowned Mount Everest Base Camp trek. This inspiring journey was guided by experienced Everest climber Nisha, with Niksha as the sole participant.

The challenging expedition began on May 16, where Niksha faced daunting Himalayan trails, extreme altitudes, bone-chilling cold, and unpredictable weather. The trek commenced after reaching Lukla from Kathmandu on May 16.

On the first day, they traveled to Phakding and then Namche Bazaar, where they took a day to acclimatize to the high-altitude environment. From there, Niksha traversed through difficult terrains like Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorak Shep, ultimately reaching the Everest Base Camp on May 22. The journey started at an altitude of approximately 2,860 meters in Lukla and concluded at about 5,364 meters (17,598 feet) at the base camp.

Niksha’s father, Nilesh Barot, shared that the entire expedition covered over 130 kilometers, which Niksha completed in just one week, setting a unique record. During the trek, she faced numerous challenges, including prolonged exposure to sub-zero temperatures, low oxygen levels, and treacherous paths. A highlight of the expedition was when Niksha performed yoga and proudly sang the national anthem upon reaching the base camp, creating a unique atmosphere of patriotism among those present.

With this historic achievement, Niksha also raised awareness about global warming and environmental conservation. At the base camp, she showcased placards with messages like “Save Nature, Save Himalayas,” “Every Child Should Plant a Tree,” and “Fit India, Green India,” promoting environmental consciousness on a global scale. Her sensitivity towards the environment at such a young age has won many hearts.

Niksha has been involved in adventurous activities from a young age. Previously, she successfully completed the challenging Kedarkantha trek in Uttarakhand at just six years old. She also participated in a 4,556-kilometer cycling journey from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat, advocating for tree planting. For her commendable environmental efforts, she was honored at the district level on January 26, and now the Everest Base Camp trek marks another proud milestone in her adventurous journey.
