Kitzbühel, May 29: This week, Yuvraj Sandhu, the only Indian player at the Austrian Alpine Open, faced a challenging start. He finished the day with a score of 1-over 71, placing him at T-100. Leading the day was China’s Yanhang Zhou, who shot an impressive 8-under 62.
The 29-year-old Sandhu, known for his multiple records on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), began his round with three consecutive bogeys on the front nine. A double bogey on the fifth hole cost him five shots in the first five holes. However, he managed to recover with three consecutive birdies at the end of the front nine, followed by birdies on the 12th and 13th holes, bringing him back to even par.
Sandhu lost a shot on the 14th hole but regained one on the 16th. He concluded his day with a birdie on the 17th hole, finishing at 1-over par. The golf course is known for low scores, so Sandhu will need to increase his pace if he hopes to make the cut this week.
The youngest player in the tournament, 18-year-old Yanhang Zhou, led the day with a remarkable round of 8-under 62, featuring seven birdies, one eagle, and one bogey. A victory this week would propel him into the top 30 of the Race to Dubai rankings.
Ricardo Gouveia is in second place with a score of 7-under 63. Rafa Cabrera Bello, who won his first title in Austria in 2009, is among six players tied for third with a score of 6-under 64. The other five players sharing third place are Marcel Schneider, Tobias Johnson, Davis Bryant, Lucas Bjerregaard, and Brandon Robinson-Thompson.
