
Lucknow, May 29: The Culture Department of Uttar Pradesh has taken a significant step to connect the younger generation with the state’s rich heritage. For the financial year 2026-27, 17 new projects have been proposed for the establishment, development, enhancement, and curation of museums across various districts in the state.
These initiatives aim to preserve and showcase the rare historical treasures, folk culture, and literary heritage of Uttar Pradesh in a modern format.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh announced on Friday that the establishment and development of these museums will provide an opportunity for youth to engage with the glorious culture, history, and traditions of the state.
He mentioned that several projects are pending decisions at the government level, which will be resolved soon to initiate work. A budget of ₹22.50 crore has been proposed for the curation of the Gaurav Museum in Gorakhpur. Additionally, ₹15 crore has been allocated for the establishment and curation of a Children’s Museum in Kannauj, while ₹24.50 crore has been earmarked for museum establishment and curation in Farrukhabad.
Furthermore, ₹16.82 crore has been proposed for the establishment of an Archaeological Museum in Kasganj, and ₹5 crore for the establishment of a museum and library dedicated to national poet Maithili Sharan Gupt in Chirgaon, Jhansi.
The Culture Minister also noted that an estimated cost of ₹1.33 crore has been set for the establishment of a museum in Sonbhadra. A new demand of ₹150 crore has been sent for the enhancement, renovation, and beautification of the State Museum in Lucknow, along with ₹100 crore for the modernization of the State Museum in Mathura.
In Chitrakoot, ₹5 crore has been proposed for the curation of the Maharishi Valmiki Ashram Museum located in Lalapur, and another ₹5 crore for the tourism development and curation of the birthplace of Sant Tulsidas, Tulsi Peeth, and Tulsi Memorial in Rajapur.
Additionally, ₹5 crore has been proposed for the establishment of a museum and library at the Harioudh Art Center in Azamgarh, ₹10 crore for the construction of the Guru Gobind Singh Memorial Institute and Heritage of Khalsa Memorial in Lucknow, and ₹25 crore for the Human Culture Development Museum.
He also stated that proposals for museum establishments in Ballia, Aligarh, Saharanpur, and Bareilly are under high-level consideration and will be advanced soon.
