NATO Nations Condemn Russian Drone Attack in Romania

London, May 29: Recently, Ukraine faced a severe drone attack by Russia in the Luhansk region, specifically targeting a college in Starobilsk, resulting in the deaths of several students. In retaliation, Russia launched a significant counterattack against Ukraine. During this assault, a Russian drone collided with a building in Romania, igniting a fire and causing minor injuries to some individuals. This action has drawn sharp criticism from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Prime Minister Starmer took to social media platform X to express his concerns, stating, “On Thursday night, a Russian drone breached Romanian airspace and collided with a residential building, injuring civilians. This is a serious violation of NATO airspace. Russia’s attacks on Ukraine and on civilian infrastructure pose a threat to the security of our entire continent. The UK unequivocally condemns such attacks.”

He further emphasized, “Time and again, Russia has shown that it disregards the lives of ordinary people, international law, and the freedom of its neighbors. This cannot be tolerated. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, Romania, and all our NATO allies in the face of Russian aggression.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz remarked, “The drone attack in Romania once again demonstrates that Russia is willing to escalate its actions. Germany stands with our NATO partners. This incident highlights the need for a stronger NATO presence in the eastern region. We are prepared to defend the alliance’s territory.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated, “Canada stands with Romania and strongly condemns the reckless Russian drone attack in Galati last night, which injured two people. This further escalates Russia’s unjust war against Ukraine. This incident represents a serious violation of Romanian airspace and international law. Canada and its NATO allies are ready to defend our territory.”

Finnish President Alexander Stubb condemned the Russian drone attack on an apartment building in Romania, stating, “Russia is crossing another line in its aggressive campaign against Ukraine. Finland stands with our ally Romania and will continue to support Ukraine in its defense. Discussions on this situation are ongoing within the alliance.”
