New Delhi: Monsoon activity is gaining momentum across North India, bringing widespread showers and much-needed relief from the heat. Several regions in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir have already begun experiencing rainfall, while the national capital Delhi awaits its first major monsoon showers — expected to arrive around June 25.
In Bihar and West Bengal, late-night showers have eased temperatures. Southern states are also witnessing heavy rains, while the Northeast continues to face worsening conditions due to incessant rainfall and strong winds, which have significantly cooled the region.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning across multiple states in the coming days. Here’s a full breakdown of the forecast:
Heavy Rain Forecast for These States
According to the IMD, the following states are under alert for heavy rain with thunder and lightning:
Gujarat
Jharkhand
Chhattisgarh
Odisha
Central Maharashtra
Eastern Uttar Pradesh
Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Additionally, Eastern Madhya Pradesh is expected to witness heavy rainfall on June 21, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h.
Northeast India on High Alert
The IMD has warned of intense rainfall in Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa through June 25.
Rainfall activity will continue across Maharashtra and Marathwada, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will experience showers between June 22 and June 24.
For Northeast India, the next seven days will likely bring thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rains at multiple locations, adding to the already challenging conditions in the region.

Uttar Pradesh
Eastern Rajasthan (through the month of June)
