Iran and USA Finalize Peace Agreement Amidst Ongoing Tensions

Paris, June 18: After months of conflict, Iran and the United States have reached a significant agreement. U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) digitally. The signing took place in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron in France.

Dan Scavino, Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House, shared on social media platform X that just before a dinner hosted by Macron in Versailles, Secretary of State Marco Rubio received the Iran MOU, which President Trump subsequently signed.

Republican Senator Eric Schmidt stated in an interview with Fox News that President Trump has achieved what many deemed impossible by weakening Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities while paving the way for diplomacy.

Schmidt emphasized that Iran has committed to not developing nuclear weapons for the first time. He insisted that this agreement should be based on the principle of verification rather than trust.

According to a report by the New York Post, the initial peace arrangement between the U.S. and Iran could strengthen Hezbollah’s economic and political position in Lebanon. The report indicates that following the agreement, Iran may begin to receive funds from unfrozen assets and oil deals.

The New York Post, citing agency sources, noted that under this MOU, Iran stands to gain hundreds of billions from post-war investments, sanctions relief, and unfrozen funds. This could enable Iran to utilize the Reconstruction Fund to support its severely damaged proxy in Lebanon.

Two regional diplomats and two senior Lebanese sources reported that Tehran has promised to provide financial assistance to Hezbollah soon, aiding the group in reorganizing its military and political activities in Lebanon.

Hezbollah’s communications office confirmed that Iran publicly supports the organization. The report referenced U.S. Treasury data, indicating that last year alone, nearly one billion dollars was transferred. The office stated that Iran’s support will continue, regardless of any arrangements related to fund recovery.

The U.S. has warned that Iran cannot use its unfrozen funds to finance any terrorist organization. Additionally, it cautioned that funds could be re-frozen if the agreement is violated.
