China and Austria Celebrate 55 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Beijing, May 29: Chinese President Xi Jinping and Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen exchanged congratulatory messages on the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their countries.

Xi Jinping noted that the bilateral relationship has experienced healthy and stable development over the past 55 years. In 2018, President Van der Bellen and he jointly established a new phase for the China-Austria friendly strategic partnership, marking a significant milestone in their bilateral ties. Last May, the arrival of a new pair of “Panda Ambassadors” in Vienna further deepened the friendship between the two nations.

In light of the current complex and unstable international situation, Xi emphasized the importance of promoting mutual respect, trust, openness, inclusivity, and mutually beneficial cooperation. He expressed his commitment to elevating China-Austria relations to a new level and contributing more to global peace and development alongside President Van der Bellen.

Van der Bellen reflected on his state visit to China in 2018, where he worked with Xi to elevate their bilateral relations to the level of a friendly strategic partnership, which he described as a significant milestone. Over the past 55 years, cooperation between Austria and China has deepened continuously, strengthening the foundation of bilateral friendship through exchanges in various fields, including people-to-people interactions, education, scientific research, culture, and the economy.

Given the current turbulent international landscape, he highlighted the importance of maintaining extensive contact, jointly safeguarding stability, and enhancing mutual understanding between Austria and China. He expressed hope that both sides would work together to promote the continuous and in-depth development of their bilateral relations.
