
According to the “2025 Telecommunications Industry Statistical Bulletin” released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the industrial structure of China’s telecommunications sector continued to improve steadily in 2025, with rapid development in new information infrastructure such as 5G and gigabit networks.
Preliminary calculations show that the total revenue from telecommunications services across China reached 1,750 billion RMB in 2025, marking a 0.7% increase compared to 2024. Emerging businesses like cloud computing, big data, and data centres achieved a combined revenue of 450.8 billion RMB, up 4.7% year-on-year.
By the end of 2025, the number of 5G mobile phone users in China exceeded 1.2 billion, accounting for 65.9% of all mobile users. The three major state-owned telecom operators – China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom – reported a total of 691 million fixed broadband users. Among them, 34.5% enjoyed access speeds of 1,000 Mbps or higher.
Fixed broadband internet access in rural areas has also expanded rapidly. By the end of 2025, broadband users in China’s rural regions reached 204 million, reflecting significant growth in connectivity beyond urban centres.
