
Beijing, May 19: The second meeting of APEC senior officials took place from May 18 to 19 in Shanghai, China. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Ma Zhaoxu emphasized that Chinese President Xi Jinping has highlighted the importance of following the trends of the era. He stated that China will listen to the voices of all members and work collaboratively with all parties to build an Asia-Pacific community. This effort aims to bring new momentum for peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world, paving the way for cooperation during APEC’s “China Year.”
This year, China will focus on the theme of the APEC conference, “Building an Asia-Pacific Community for Shared Prosperity.” Utilizing the Shenzen Declaration from APEC leaders as a platform, a roadmap will be outlined to achieve the goals of the Asia-Pacific community. This roadmap will emphasize four pillars: trade, connectivity, innovation, and development, while preparing for the outcomes of the leaders’ meeting.
All participants praised the progress made in APEC cooperation across various sectors this year. They expressed appreciation for China’s hosting of the APEC meeting and their willingness to work together to achieve fruitful results during APEC’s “China Year.”
