Twisha Sharma Death Case: Father Demands Fair Investigation Amid Allegations of Influence

Bhopal, May 19: The father of Twisha Sharma, who tragically lost her life at her in-laws’ residence in the Katara Hills area on May 12, has raised serious concerns about the influence of the accused’s family over the investigation. Niv Nidhi Sharma stated on Tuesday that the family of the accused is powerful enough to exert pressure on the system. He expressed that his grieving family is facing continuous public attacks and a narrative being constructed against them.

In a detailed public statement, Niv Nidhi Sharma mentioned that they have repeatedly informed authorities about their fears regarding the significant influence of Twisha’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, a retired judge, and her family. He emphasized that they could potentially manipulate the system, public opinion, and the investigation process.

“I am compelled to issue this public statement as the father of the late Twisha Sharma, driven by a broken heart and unbearable pain, in pursuit of justice, fairness, and the dignity of my daughter. My daughter can no longer respond to the public attacks and false allegations made by the accused,” he stated.

He continued, “Now that our daughter is forever silent, those under serious scrutiny are publicly defending themselves and presenting their desired narrative. This unequal situation is causing profound distress to our grieving family and undermining public trust in the fairness of the entire process.”

Sharma clarified that this statement aims solely to uphold truth, justice, transparency, and the dignity of his daughter. He expressed, “We maintain our faith in the Constitution of India, the judiciary, and investigative agencies, sincerely hoping that the truth will prevail without fear, bias, or pressure.”

Twisha Sharma’s remains are currently held at AIIMS Bhopal as her family seeks legal recourse and demands a fair investigation into the case. The police have filed an FIR against Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, and his mother, Giribala Singh. Giribala Singh is a retired judge of the Bhopal District Court and currently serves as the head of the Bhopal Consumer Court.

A district court in Bhopal granted interim bail to co-accused Giribala Singh on Saturday, while Justice Pallavi Dwivedi denied Samarth’s interim bail plea on Monday. Samarth Singh has been absconding since Twisha’s death on May 12.

The Bhopal police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a thorough inquiry into Twisha’s suspicious death. Twisha had married Samarth in December 2025.

Twisha’s parents and other family members are demanding a second post-mortem of her body at AIIMS New Delhi and have been in contact with authorities in Madhya Pradesh since May 13.

Niv Nidhi Sharma has also reached out to the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, requesting that Giribala Singh be removed or suspended from her quasi-judicial duties until the investigation is complete. He expressed concerns that her continued position could indirectly affect investigators, witnesses, and forensic processes. The petition cited Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution, demanding a fair and transparent investigation.

The central issue of the controversy remains the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death. According to the defense’s statement presented in court, Twisha visited a beauty parlor on May 12 and went for a walk before returning home. The family claims she was later found hanging from a rod on the terrace with an exercise resistance band. Attempts were made to revive her before she was taken to AIIMS Bhopal.

However, Twisha’s family has refuted these claims. They allege that she faced ongoing mental and physical abuse related to dowry demands and was pressured to undergo an abortion. Court records also indicate that the accused husband questioned her about the father of her unborn child and repeatedly assaulted her.

The prosecution referenced WhatsApp messages Twisha sent to her mother days before her death. In a message dated May 9, she allegedly wrote, “Mom, please come to pick me up tomorrow,” and in another, she described her life as hell, complaining that her husband no longer spoke to her.
