New Delhi, May 19: German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz has made a significant impact in a short time. He became the youngest player to score for Germany in the UPO Cup 2024. Additionally, he holds the record for scoring a goal just 7 seconds into a match.

Born on May 3, 2003, in Pulheim, Germany, Wirtz started playing football at the age of seven. He began his career with the youth team of FC Cologne, where he honed his skills and worked tirelessly to improve.

After nearly a decade with the club, he joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2020. Wirtz’s impressive performance in the Under-17 category led to his senior debut in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen in 2020. He became the youngest player to start in the lineup, debuting at just 17 years and 15 days old.

Wirtz scored his first career goal against Bayern Munich, making him the youngest player to score in the Bundesliga. In 2021, he debuted for the German national team during a World Cup qualifier against Iceland. His exceptional technique, dribbling, and speed have made a mark on the international stage.

In 2024, during a friendly match against France, Wirtz scored a goal in just 7 seconds, setting a record for the fastest goal for Germany. He also became the youngest player to score in the European Championship for Germany.

During the 2023-24 Bundesliga season, Wirtz’s outstanding performance helped Bayer Leverkusen remain unbeaten throughout the season, earning them the title of invincible in the tournament. Wirtz admires Argentine legend Lionel Messi and aspires to leave a similar impact on the field.

Although he missed the last FIFA World Cup due to injury, he is considered a trump card for Germany in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026. Currently, he is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. In 2025, he will leave Leverkusen to join Liverpool.
