Support for CM Yogis Statement on Public Prayer from Muslim Clerics

New Delhi, May 19: The political landscape in Uttar Pradesh has intensified following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement against performing prayers on the streets. While BJP leaders support his remarks, opposition parties are voicing their dissent. Notably, a prominent Muslim cleric has also backed the Chief Minister’s position.

Maulana Chaudhary Ifrat-e-Hussain, the chief mufti of Uttar Pradesh, endorsed CM Adityanath’s statement, asserting that it aligns with Islamic principles and court orders, as public roads are not meant for prayer.

He stated, “CM Yogi Adityanath’s assertion that prayers should not be held on the streets is absolutely correct. The High Court has already issued orders regarding this matter. It is well-known that prayers should not be conducted on public roads. Islam mentions that prayers should not be performed in places that can cause disputes.”

Minister Danish Azad Ansari responded to the Chief Minister’s statement, emphasizing, “The government issues guidelines. Under PM Modi’s leadership, CM Yogi Adityanath has consistently worked to ensure the safety and security of minority communities in Uttar Pradesh. We should all adhere to the guidelines issued by the government. Moreover, leading society towards development should undoubtedly be our collective agenda.”

In response to another query, he mentioned that different states are working to fulfill PM Modi’s commitment to the development of minority communities.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Anil Rajbhar remarked that roads are meant for people to walk on. If roads are occupied, it will disrupt traffic. Roads are for walking, while mosques are designated for prayers. Muslims should perform their prayers in mosques.
