Putin to Visit India for BRICS Summit 2026 in September

Moscow, May 19: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India this year. India will host the BRICS Summit in 2026, and President Putin is expected to arrive in September for this significant event.

The Russian Embassy in South Africa shared this information on the social media platform X, citing Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov. Putin will participate in the BRICS Summit on September 12-13 in New Delhi. This will mark his second visit to India within a year.

India took over the presidency of the BRICS group on January 13, 2026. Around January 14, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar launched the official theme, logo, and website related to the summit.

Previously, Putin visited India in December 2025 for a two-day trip, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. During this meeting, both nations transformed their relationship into a strategic partnership.

The two leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening the privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia. They emphasized the unique characteristics of their long-standing relationship, which is built on mutual trust, respect for each other’s national interests, and strategic alignment.

They highlighted the importance of this relationship as a pillar of global peace and stability, which should be ensured on the basis of equal and indivisible security.

During the summit, both leaders positively assessed the various mutually beneficial aspects of India-Russia relations, which span political, strategic, military, security, trade, investment, energy, science and technology, nuclear, space, culture, education, and humanitarian cooperation.

President Putin and PM Modi reaffirmed their common ambition to enhance bilateral trade in a balanced and sustainable manner. This includes increasing Russian exports to India, strengthening industrial cooperation, and creating new pathways for collaboration in high-tech sectors. They welcomed the adoption of Program 2030 to develop strategic areas of India-Russia economic cooperation by 2030.
