Beijing, May 19: The 79th World Health Assembly has once again decided not to include proposals related to Taiwan in its agenda. In response, Chen Pinghua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, stated on May 18 that this marks the tenth consecutive year that the Assembly has rejected so-called proposals concerning Taiwan presented by a handful of countries. This decision reaffirms that adherence to the One-China principle is a consensus of the international community, a reflection of public will, a demand of the times, and a fundamental principle. The commitment of the international community to the One-China principle remains indisputable and steadfast.
Chen emphasized that Taiwan is part of China and that the people living in Taiwan are our compatriots and relatives. He noted that despite Taiwan’s absence from the World Health Assembly, arrangements have been made for Taiwan’s participation in global health based on the One-China principle. Over the past year, 18 medical experts from Taiwan have participated in WHO technical activities. Under the framework of international health regulations, Taiwan is able to receive and report any public health emergency information disseminated by the WHO promptly. This clearly demonstrates our serious commitment to addressing the health concerns of our compatriots and effectively guarantees their health rights in Taiwan.
