Union Education Minister Reviews NEET UG Re-Exam Preparations Amidst Strict Security Measures

New Delhi, May 19: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has conducted a review of the preparations for the NEET (UG) re-examination. On Tuesday, he convened a high-level meeting to discuss the arrangements for the re-exam, which is now scheduled for June 21. The exam was initially set for May 3 but was canceled on May 11 due to a paper leak. The CBI is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.

During the meeting, Minister Pradhan emphasized the importance of fairness, transparency, and security in the upcoming NEET UG re-exam. He instructed officials to address all shortcomings identified in the previous examination process. The minister mandated that this exam be conducted in a completely secure, uninterrupted, and error-free manner. Senior officials from the Ministry of Education, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and other relevant departments were present at the meeting.

Pradhan stated that no negligence would be tolerated in this crucial examination that impacts the futures of millions of students. He directed officials to ensure that the NEET examination is conducted under strict security protocols to maintain its credibility and transparency. The minister also called for coordination meetings with district magistrates and police superintendents to enhance oversight at examination centers through better collaboration between district administration and law enforcement.

He specifically highlighted the need for robust security measures at examination centers, insisting that vigilance and monitoring must not be compromised. Officials were instructed to deploy adequate security personnel, establish thorough candidate screening processes, and ensure special monitoring at sensitive centers. Additionally, the minister prioritized student convenience, directing that transportation, drinking water, seating arrangements, and other essential facilities be adequately provided to avoid any inconvenience for candidates.

The meeting also discussed technical and administrative measures to enhance the transparency and reliability of the examination process. The ministry indicated that a multi-tier monitoring system would be implemented this time to minimize the possibility of irregularities. Minister Pradhan reiterated that the successful and fair conduct of the NEET re-examination is the government’s top priority, and all agencies must work with full responsibility and coordination.

It is noteworthy that the previous exam was conducted on May 3, and four days later, on May 7, the NTA received reports of discrepancies, leading to the matter being referred to central agencies on May 8. Subsequently, the decision was made to cancel the exam and conduct a re-examination. The Ministry of Education stated that the decision to hold the NEET UG re-exam was made with the students’ best interests in mind.
