Amaravati, May 19: The Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board is set to receive records from Telangana soon. A senior official announced on Tuesday that these records, dating back to the time of united Andhra Pradesh, have been with the Telangana Waqf Board and their transfer has been pending for the past decade.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz, the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board, stated that significant progress has been made towards resolving this long-standing issue. He credited the intervention of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minority Welfare Minister N.M.D. Farooq for making this possible.
According to Abdul Aziz, the Waqf Board is also taking steps to reclaim outstanding financial assets along with the records.
After the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh in 2014, crucial records, files, survey forms, district-wise gazettes, copies of board proposals, and other documents related to the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board remained under the jurisdiction of the Telangana Waqf Board.
He explained that under the Waqf Act of 1995 and the division guidelines set by the central government, these records and assets were supposed to be transferred to the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board, but the process stalled for years.
Since taking office, Abdul Aziz prioritized this issue. He held multiple meetings with the chairman, CEO, and other senior officials of the Telangana Waqf Board and advanced the matter through continuous correspondence.
He noted that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Farooq took the issue seriously and provided significant support at the appropriate levels for a resolution.
Abdul Aziz revealed that after ongoing efforts and high-level administrative discussions, the Telangana government issued a memorandum to the Hyderabad district collector, directing the clearance of the record room and its handover to the CEO of the Telangana Waqf Board.
Currently, the Telangana Waqf Board possesses a total of 2,971 files, eight survey commissioner report books, and three gazettes related to the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board.
Abdul Aziz mentioned that once the record room is cleared and the documents are handed over, the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board will take possession of them. Special teams from the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board have already been dispatched to expedite the identification, listing, and takeover process of the records.
He emphasized that these records are crucial for the security of Waqf properties, management of legal matters, survey verification, and uploading information to the central government’s expected portal.
Abdul Aziz also noted that the process of recovering cash balances, deposits, and other financial liabilities owed to the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board is ongoing. According to him, the board is still awaiting a total of ₹55.5 crore in financial dues.
