Lucknow, June 16: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has made a significant decision prioritizing the safety, health, and quality education of children. In light of the rising temperatures and heatwave conditions, the summer vacation for schools under the Basic Education Council and recognized institutions has been extended until June 24.
According to an order issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of Basic and Secondary Education, Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, summer vacation will now be observed from May 20 to June 24 each year, with regular classes resuming on June 25. The Yogi government aims to protect children from extreme heat while ensuring a smooth and organized start to the new academic session.
This decision is based on experiences from previous years when district magistrates had to repeatedly extend vacations due to heatwave conditions. The new system will ensure uniformity across the state, providing students, parents, and teachers with a clear academic calendar.
The Yogi government has also ensured that all necessary preparations are completed before schools reopen. Teachers, education friends, instructors, and non-teaching staff will be present at schools on June 22, 23, and 24. During this period, they will prepare lesson plans, finalize mid-day meal arrangements, distribute textbooks, hold school management committee meetings, prepare for child care operations, and clean school premises, kitchens, and toilets, as well as ensure the availability of sports materials and the functionality of smart classrooms and ICT labs.
The Additional Chief Secretary has instructed that a minimum of 220 working days and regular classes be ensured each academic session, in accordance with the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act. District magistrates have also been directed to consider this legal provision before declaring any local holidays.
The Yogi government believes that ensuring sufficient teaching days is essential for improving children’s learning outcomes and providing quality education. The order also includes directives to maintain electricity, drinking water, and other basic facilities in schools. Additionally, every year on June 21, International Yoga Day will be celebrated with group yoga sessions involving teachers and students. The government’s aim is to connect students with a healthy lifestyle, discipline, and positive thinking.
