Mumbai, June 16: The nation is gearing up for the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. On Wednesday morning, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, will lead a special Fit India Cyclothon titled “Cycling by the Sea” at Mumbai’s iconic Worli cycling track.
As part of the nationwide Fit India campaign, the regional center of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) is organizing this special event at the Worli Coastal Cycling Track.
Starting at 6:30 AM, this cycling event will see around 250 cyclists from various sectors join Dr. Mandaviya, all while enjoying the picturesque views of Mumbai’s coastline. This initiative is a vital part of the broader Fit India Movement, which promotes fitness as a lifestyle through community engagement, cycling, yoga, and other physical activities.
With the Arabian Sea on one side and hundreds of cyclists on the other, the cyclothon in Mumbai is set to embody the central message of the Fit India Movement: “Healthy Citizens, Clean Cities, and a Strong Sports Culture,” as India progresses towards becoming a global sports powerhouse.
This cyclothon is timely, occurring just days before International Yoga Day, reinforcing the message that fitness and wellness are integral to a healthy society. For the past year, Dr. Mandaviya has been actively promoting cycling through the “Sundays on Cycle” initiative, presenting it as a simple yet powerful tool for personal health and environmental sustainability.
Launched in December 2024, Dr. Mandaviya’s cycling initiative has positively impacted the lives of over 3 million people across more than 300,000 locations in the country. The Fit India Sundays on Cycle event is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, Yogasan Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, and My Bharat.
The cyclothon in Mumbai also marks the beginning of global celebrations for the 12th International Yoga Day (IDY) on June 21, with millions participating from over 180 countries.
Over the past decade, International Yoga Day has become one of the largest health movements worldwide, with India playing a leading role. Countries across various continents are uniting to promote holistic health and preventive healthcare, strengthening India’s leadership in fostering a healthy, active, and sustainable lifestyle for the global community through initiatives like Fit India Sundays on Cycle and Yoga Day.
