Fierce Clashes in Yemen Leave 25 Dead Amid Escalating Violence

Taiz, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Intense fighting erupted in Yemen’s southwestern Taiz province on September 3, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 individuals, including 15 government soldiers and 10 Houthi fighters. A military official confirmed the casualties, noting that the conflict began early Thursday when Houthi rebels launched a large-scale assault on government positions in the villages of Makbana and Al-Qadha.

Both sides deployed artillery, mortars, and other heavy weaponry during the clash. Initially, Houthi fighters managed to seize control of several areas. However, after receiving additional support, government forces mounted a counterattack, regaining control of some territories.

Local residents reported that as the fighting intensified, many families fled to safer areas. The increased shelling by Houthi forces has led to further displacement, forcing people to abandon their homes.

In addition to ground battles, missile and drone attacks occurred in various regions of western Yemen. Government forces claimed that Houthi rebels launched 14 ballistic missiles and conducted drone strikes on the western coastal areas of Taiz and neighboring Hudaydah province. The government asserted that their air defense systems intercepted several of these drones.

So far, the Houthi group has not issued an official response to the recent clashes or the government’s claims. On Monday, Yemeni government forces announced that they had intercepted four boats laden with explosives belonging to the Houthi group. According to the state-run Saba news agency, these boats were heading toward the Hanish archipelago and Jukaar Island, near international maritime routes in the Red Sea, but were halted by government naval forces.

Military sources indicated that there had been several Houthi naval activities observed on Sunday and Monday as they attempted to reach these strategic islands. In recent weeks, fighting has intensified across multiple fronts in Yemen, with government forces increasing drone and artillery attacks on Houthi positions, while the Houthi group has escalated missile and drone strikes on government-controlled areas in Marib and along the Red Sea coast.

The ongoing conflict in Yemen has already affected millions, and the latest surge in violence has further exacerbated the plight of civilians.
