Investigation Continues in Chandranath Rath Murder Case: Police Claim Car Used in Crime Was Brought from Jharkhand

Kolkata, May 11: The investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, is ongoing. Investigators revealed that the car used in the murder was brought in from Jharkhand and that online payments were made using the same vehicle. A senior police officer provided this information on Sunday.

Based on this lead, the search for the suspects is underway. However, no arrests have been made yet.

To facilitate the investigation, the West Bengal police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). This team includes officers from the Special Task Force (STF) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Members of the investigation team have traveled to Uttar Pradesh in pursuit of the suspects. Investigators are hopeful that these leads will soon lead them to Chandranath’s killers and that the criminals will be apprehended.

Additionally, police have obtained CCTV footage from the Bali toll plaza, which is currently under examination. Since the payment was made online via UPI, efforts are being made to gather more information through that channel.

According to police officials, several individuals are being interrogated in connection with this murder case.

Chandranath was shot dead on the night of May 6 in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas district. A four-wheeler suddenly blocked his car, causing it to stop. At that moment, assailants on two motorcycles opened fire on Chandranath and his driver, resulting in the immediate death of Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant. Chandranath’s driver remains hospitalized.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Trinamool Congress of involvement in the incident. In response, the Trinamool Congress condemned the act and called for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under judicial supervision.

Police believe that the conspiracy to murder Chandranath was hatched at least a month and a half prior. Investigators are trying to determine who might have had a motive to kill him at that time and whether he had any disputes with anyone.

On the day of the incident, police seized the car used in the murder. The vehicle’s license plate was found to be fake, leading to the recovery of two motorcycles used by the assailants, which also had counterfeit plates. This was likely done to mislead the investigation.
