New Delhi, March 6: The 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue 2026 was held recently, featuring Finland’s President Alexander Stubb as the chief guest. Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal and Secretary (West) Siby George shared insights related to the dialogue.
Secretary Siby George stated, “At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Dr. Alexander Stubb is visiting India from March 4 to 7. This marks his first visit as President. He is accompanied by a high-level ministerial and official delegation, along with a significant business delegation. This underscores the importance both sides place on trade, business, and investment as the core pillars of bilateral relations.”
George further noted, “President Stubb participated in the inaugural session of the 11th Raisina Dialogue 2026 in New Delhi, where he delivered a speech. His visit follows Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s trip to New Delhi in February for the AI Impact Summit, where he also met our Prime Minister.”
He emphasized that the India-Nordic Summit provided an opportunity for the leaders of both nations to stay connected. Prime Minister Modi met with President Stubb during the first and second India-Nordic Summits in Stockholm and Copenhagen in 2018 and 2022, respectively. The two leaders have maintained close contact, meeting at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg in October 2025 and conversing over the phone at least twice last year. During their meeting today, PM Modi and President Stubb advanced India-Finland relations, which are evolving into a sustainable and strategic partnership, particularly in the technology sector.
Regarding Arctic issues, George stated, “Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation and dialogue on Arctic matters through joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, and capacity-building programs. They highlighted the first India-Finland Arctic Dialogue held in Finland, titled ‘The Himalayan and Arctic Ecosystem,’ which brought together parliamentary, governmental, academic, and expert representatives to discuss strategies for deepening collaboration on Arctic issues.”
Secretary Siby George also emphasized the importance of advancing cooperation within the framework of the Arctic Council structure, which will take place later this year. Thus, collaboration and dialogue on Arctic matters were essential topics of discussion.
On issues concerning West Asia and other conflict situations, the Ministry of External Affairs stated, “Both leaders discussed critical issues pertinent to India, Finland, and Europe. They addressed the current situation in West Asia. Our spokesperson has previously issued statements regarding the ongoing conditions in West Asia, expressing our deep concern and calling for restraint and de-escalation.”
