Beijing, April 1: According to the China Meteorological Administration, the country has established the world’s largest agricultural weather observation network. This network, utilizing an integrated “space-air-ground” monitoring model and cutting-edge technologies, not only strengthens the national food security strategy but also serves as a “digital engine” for the development of smart agriculture through its unique technical system.
Currently, the meteorological department has set up a modern observation system that includes 642 artificial observation stations, 738 automatic observation stations, 15 specialized service centers, and 91 experimental stations.
Wu Tongli, deputy director of the Meteorological Observation Center’s Systems Department at the China Meteorological Administration, stated that the network’s greatest feature is the combination of intelligence and accuracy. She explained that a world-class leading agricultural weather observation system has been created with the support of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, laser, and remote sensing. Presently, China is the only country in the world with a complete set of automatic observation data for various stages of crop development, boasting an accuracy rate of over 90 percent for the original data.
