Strengthening China-Sri Lanka Relations: A New Era of Cooperation

Beijing, April 1: Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Liaison Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), met with a high-level delegation from Sri Lanka’s Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) led by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, Vasantha Samarasinghe, in the capital city of Beijing on Tuesday.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the implementation of agreements reached between their leaders, enhancing communication between political parties, and the overall development of China-Sri Lanka relations.

Liu emphasized that the successful meeting between the heads of state of both nations last January provided a clear strategic direction for the development of bilateral relations. He noted that both the CCP and JVP are Marxist ruling parties that have played a significant role in advancing their bilateral ties. Liu also shared insights into the CCP’s historical struggles and the development achievements attained in the new era.

On his part, Vasantha Samarasinghe remarked that China has always been a reliable partner and friend to Sri Lanka. He highlighted that in recent years, the relationship between the JVP and the CCP has continually strengthened. The memorandum signed in the presence of both heads of state last year marked a new chapter in their relations.

Samarasinghe further stated that the development achievements attained by the Chinese people under the leadership of the CCP reflect the robust vitality of the socialist system. The JVP places great importance on the friendly relations between the two parties and is committed to learning from China’s governance and development experiences.
