Drone Attack Causes Chaos at Dubai Airport Amid Rising Tensions with Iran

Dubai, March 16: The ongoing conflict in West Asia has escalated, with Iran threatening to broaden its attacks. Following these warnings, Gulf countries reported severe missile and drone strikes starting Sunday.

In the early hours of Monday, Iran, engaged in warfare against the US and Israel, targeted Gulf nations once again after dismissing any possibility of negotiations. A drone attack near Dubai Airport resulted in a massive fire, causing panic among officials and travelers. The Dubai Media Office confirmed that efforts to control the blaze are underway.

A post on the social media platform X stated, “Officials are currently working to manage a fire caused by a drone-related incident near Dubai International Airport.” It further assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure public safety. This attack followed Iran’s warning that US troops were hiding in these locations, urging people to evacuate specific sites in Dubai and Doha. Iran indicated that attacks could occur in the coming hours.

Iran Continues Missile and Drone Strikes

On Sunday, Gulf nations had also reported missile and drone assaults. Notably, since the US and Israel’s attack on Iran on February 28, fierce fighting has persisted in West Asia. In retaliation, Iran has launched continuous attacks on Israel and neighboring countries around the Persian Gulf. This conflict has disrupted global aviation services, hindered oil exports, and led to rising fuel prices worldwide.

Previously, Iran had urged residents to evacuate three ports in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This marked the first time Iran openly threatened to attack non-US assets in a neighboring country. Iran claimed that the US utilized UAE ports, docks, and facilities to launch attacks on Kharg Island, a key terminal for its oil exports.

Iran’s Accusations

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi accused the US of conducting attacks from UAE territory on Kharg and Abu Musa islands. He described the situation as dangerous, asserting that Iran would strive to avoid targeting populated areas. The US Central Command has not responded to these claims, while Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic advisor to the UAE President, dismissed Iran’s allegations that the US used Emirati land or airspace for attacks on Kharg Island.

Economic Impact of the Conflict

During the conflict, Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and drones at the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman. Iran claims to be targeting US installations, but reports of attacks on airports and residential areas have also emerged. Although the air defense systems of these countries have intercepted most attacks, significant damage has occurred, impacting the economies of Gulf nations. Since the onset of the war, at least 12 civilians, primarily migrant workers, have lost their lives due to Iranian strikes.

Casualties from the War

According to the International Red Cross, over 1,300 people have died in Iran, including 223 women and 202 children. In Israel, 12 fatalities have been reported due to Iranian missile attacks, with many others injured. Additionally, at least 13 US soldiers have died since the conflict began. The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon has deepened, with Israel conducting multiple strikes against Iran-backed Hezbollah, resulting in over 800 deaths and displacing 850,000 people.
