Kabul, March 17: Pakistan has launched a significant attack on Afghanistan, resulting in claims from the Taliban that 400 people have died. Pakistan, however, denies these allegations. The Taliban government accused the Pakistani military of targeting a hospital in Kabul that treats individuals struggling with substance addiction. This incident occurred shortly after Afghan officials reported gunfire along the shared border, which resulted in four fatalities in Afghanistan.
According to media reports, the Pakistani military struck a hospital located in Kabul’s 9th police district, leading to at least 400 deaths and around 250 injuries. The Taliban government stated that a large portion of the hospital was devastated, and there are fears that the death toll may rise.
Government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the attack on social media, asserting that it violates Afghanistan’s sovereignty. He noted that most of the deceased and injured were patients undergoing treatment for drug addiction.
Pakistan’s Denial
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s spokesperson, Mosharraf Zaidi, dismissed these accusations, claiming that no hospital in Kabul was targeted. He stated, “The strikes aimed at military bases and locations supporting terrorism, including storage facilities for technical equipment and ammunition.”
Deaths of Two Children
Earlier, gunfire in several border areas resulted in the deaths of at least two children in southeastern Afghanistan, with ten others injured, according to Afghan officials. Despite international calls for a ceasefire, fighting has continued for the third consecutive week between both sides.
Mustagfar Gurbaz, spokesperson for the governor of Afghanistan’s Khost province, reported that mortars fired from Pakistan struck villages on Sunday night, injuring ten individuals and damaging several homes.
China Calls for Direct Dialogue
As the conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan persists, China has called for direct dialogue to end the hostilities. During a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian expressed hopes that both parties would exercise restraint, reach a ceasefire soon, and resolve their differences through dialogue.
