Bengaluru, February 16: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stated that India is rapidly advancing in the design and development of Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). He emphasized the need to complete previous efforts in the field of aero engines that had been left unfinished.

Speaking at the Gas Turbine Research Establishment in Bengaluru, the Defense Minister addressed experts and researchers, saying, “If developing an engine takes 25 years, given India’s current situation, strategic needs, and ambitions, you should consider that your time has effectively run out 20 years ago. You now have only 5 years left. This is not surprising; it is a challenge. We must accomplish in 5 years what other countries take 20 years to achieve. We need to give our best in this endeavor.”

He also highlighted the importance of looking towards the future. “We cannot limit ourselves to just fifth-generation engines. We must begin developing sixth-generation advanced technology as soon as possible. Research in this area is essential. As technology evolves globally, with increasing use of artificial intelligence and new materials, we must stay ahead,” he added.

The Defense Minister commended the scientists and researchers present for their collaborative study with England on aero engine development. He noted that this initiative is commendable. Additionally, he mentioned that India has initiated processes with France under the National Aero Engine Mission. Both France and the UK have advanced aero engine technology, and these agreements will not only provide opportunities to learn new technologies but also help understand the challenges faced in previous decades.

Rajnath Singh remarked that upon taking office, the government took significant steps towards self-reliance in defense. He stated, “Throughout my nearly seven years in office, I have prioritized the development of aero engines, and we have made progress. Given the current global political landscape, the importance of self-reliance in such critical technology is evident. During Operation Sindoor, we witnessed how our indigenous technology and domestically produced weapons supported our forces, whether in communication systems, surveillance tools, or offensive weapons.”

He noted that this has boosted the morale of the armed forces and instilled pride among the citizens. As challenges evolve with time, it has become crucial to focus more on indigenous methods and provide our forces with world-class systems and equipment. The Defense Minister emphasized that India is presented with numerous opportunities that need to be leveraged. He also mentioned the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, which had been stalled for 18 years but is now finalized.

This trade agreement signifies the recognition of India’s growing economic and political power. Recently, during a meeting with the Greek Defense Minister, he received a pleasant surprise when the minister expressed that he views India not just as an emerging power but as a superpower. According to him, India is no longer an ordinary nation but a global leader.
