Bhubaneswar, April 14: Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pramila Patra officially launched the innovative ‘Aarohan’ initiative on Tuesday. This historic program, led by the Department of Women and Child Development, aims to strengthen the foundation of early childhood education across the state.
According to an official statement, the primary goal of this ambitious initiative is to enhance early childhood education and ensure a smooth transition for children from Anganwadi centers to Bal Vatika-3 after completing their pre-primary learning.
The initiative specifically targets six-year-old children who have completed their early years and are ready to enroll in Bal Vatika-3 (Class 1).
During the event, Deputy CM Patra addressed the children and parents, emphasizing that the first six years of a child’s life are crucial for brain development. She noted that, on the occasion of Nutrition Fortnight-2026, the government is prioritizing early childhood development.
Patra highlighted that this initiative is not solely the government’s responsibility; active participation and cooperation from parents are essential for nurturing a bright future for children.
At the launch, the Deputy CM explained that the name ‘Aarohan’ symbolizes the ‘height’ of a child’s educational journey. She stated that while approximately 80% of a child’s foundational development occurs in the Anganwadi environment, this program prepares them for the remaining 20% as they step into formal education. The government aims to instill a sense of pride and enthusiasm in children, making them feel they are embarking on an important new mission rather than leaving a familiar place.
Patra expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Secretary of the Department of Women and Child Development and the entire administrative team for initiating this unique concept. She remarked that ‘Aarohan’ is more than just a ceremony; it represents a commitment to the prosperity and education of the state’s youth. She hopes that, with the blessings of Lord Jagannath, this program will successfully guide these children toward a bright and empowered future.
As a symbol of new beginnings, Patra vaccinated the children and sent them off with ‘Aarohan kits,’ blessings, and encouragement for the next stage of their lives. The program’s tagline, “One Step Forward for a Bright Future,” emphasizes collective progress toward a better future for every child.
