Jasprit Bumrahs Struggles Highlighted by Former MI Bowler Mitchell McClenaghan

Mumbai, April 18: The performance of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2026 has been disappointing. The team started the season with a victory but has since lost four consecutive matches. Among the players struggling this season, Jasprit Bumrah stands out.

Surprisingly, Bumrah has not taken a single wicket in the last five matches. Runs have been scored off his deliveries as well. Former New Zealand left-arm fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan, who has played for MI, has commented on Bumrah’s underwhelming performance.

Speaking on Star Sports’ “Amul Cricket Live,” McClenaghan stated that Bumrah is not being utilized effectively. This mismanagement has hindered his ability to make an impact.

McClenaghan explained, “Bumrah is often brought into the attack after the first over, putting him in a damage control situation rather than allowing him to dictate terms. You want him to start bowling from the first over and apply pressure on the opposing team from the outset. The Mumbai Indians need to rethink how they are using him, as introducing him earlier could make a significant difference.”

In a match held at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians batted first, scoring 195 runs for the loss of six wickets. Punjab chased down the target, scoring 198 runs for five wickets in just 16.3 overs. For Punjab, Prabhsimran scored an unbeaten 80 off 39 balls, while Iyer contributed 66 runs off 35 balls. In this match, Bumrah bowled four overs, conceding 41 runs without taking a wicket.

In the last five matches, Bumrah has bowled 19 overs, giving away 164 runs without claiming a single wicket.
