
Raipur, April 15: Following a significant incident at the Vedanta plant in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, the state’s Industry Minister, Lakhan Lal Devangan, has responded to the situation. He announced that the Chief Minister has ordered a magistrate inquiry into the incident and directed the collector to submit a report within 30 days. The investigation process has already commenced, and strict action will be taken based on any shortcomings identified.
The minister described the incident as tragic. At the time of the accident, 32 workers were present at the site. The government is treating this matter with utmost seriousness, conducting a thorough investigation into every aspect. If negligence by officials is uncovered, action will be taken against them. Additionally, stringent measures will be enforced against the company under the Factory Act.
He further stated that the government regularly inspects industrial units, and officials conduct inspections periodically. Nevertheless, it is unfortunate that such incidents still occur.
The minister also announced that the Chief Minister has declared a compensation of 500,000 rupees for the families of the deceased, while the injured will receive 50,000 rupees. Furthermore, the government is working to ensure that the factory owners provide appropriate compensation to the victims.
He mentioned that victims will also receive pensions and other benefits under the Employees’ State Insurance scheme. The government stands firmly with the affected families and will ensure that no injustice occurs.
Meanwhile, the opposition has raised concerns, questioning whether safety standards were adequately followed, given that this is the second major incident at the Vedanta Group’s plant. In response, the minister stated that some individuals are misrepresenting the issue, while the government is handling the situation with sensitivity.
He noted that immediate action was taken as soon as the incident was reported. He personally spoke with the Chief Minister, who will soon visit the hospital and the factory to meet with the injured.
