Hillary Clinton Denies Meeting Jeffrey Epstein During Congressional Testimony

Washington, February 27: Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. She clarified to lawmakers that she had no knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein‘s crimes and had never met the notorious financier.

Clinton stated, “I had no information about his criminal activities. I do not recall ever meeting Epstein. I never traveled on his plane or visited his island, homes, or offices.”

This testimony comes as Clinton was summoned under the investigation led by a Republican-controlled committee examining Epstein, who died in custody in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges, and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a federal prison sentence.

In her opening statement, Clinton criticized the investigation, accusing the committee of focusing on diverting attention from President Trump‘s actions while forcing testimony that does not contribute to their inquiry.

She further asserted that the investigation was designed to protect a political party and a public official rather than deliver truth and justice for victims and survivors. Clinton reiterated that she has no recollection of ever meeting Epstein and stated that she had nothing more to add beyond her sworn statement from January.

The testimony became contentious after a photo leaked and was posted online, violating House rules that prohibit photography during such proceedings. Clinton later described the leak as deeply troubling, suggesting it indicated potential violations of other agreements.

She characterized the questioning as repetitive, stating, “I don’t know how many times I had to say that I do not know Jeffrey Epstein. This has been recorded multiple times.” Republican committee chair Representative James R. Comer defended the investigation, asserting that it is not a partisan retaliatory action. He noted that Democrats had voted in favor of holding the Clintons in contempt after they initially refused to appear.

Comer expressed dissatisfaction with some of Clinton’s responses and indicated that further questioning would occur during former President Bill Clinton’s testimony on Friday. Democrats on the committee strongly opposed this, with Representative Yasmin Ansari describing the statement as frivolous and Representative Robert Garcia asserting that Clinton had no knowledge of any wrongdoing.

Clinton urged the committee to focus on releasing files and calling individuals directly connected to the case. She remarked that they had made minimal efforts to summon those most prominently featured in Epstein’s files.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats announced plans to safeguard records related to Epstein from the Justice Department and to review unredacted materials. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer stated that Democrats would hold Palm Bondi and all involved in this cover-up accountable.

Jeffrey Epstein was a high-profile financier with connections to major names in politics and business. His legal troubles began in 2008 when he was convicted of sex crimes involving minors. In 2019, he faced federal charges of human trafficking but died in a New York jail before court proceedings could commence.
