
Mumbai, June 21: A significant number of people around the globe gathered to embrace the ancient tradition of yoga on the occasion of International Yoga Day (IDY).
In Moscow, the Indian Embassy’s Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Center, in collaboration with the Moscow City Government, organized the 12th International Yoga Day at the prestigious Lomonosov Moscow State University’s Universitetskaya Square. This year’s theme was “Yoga for Healthy Aging.”
The Indian Embassy shared on X, “Yoga enthusiasts, locals, and wellness professionals actively participated in the event. Everyone embraced the message of health, mental peace, balance, and a better lifestyle through yoga.”
In Germany, the Indian Embassy in Berlin and the Tagore Cultural Center celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 in front of the historic Brandenburg Gate, with over 500 participants attending the event.
Despite the rain, the enthusiasm of the participants remained high. The embassy noted, “Participants practiced yoga with great zeal, promoting messages of health, harmony, and well-being.”
A special message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging” was shared during the program. Ambassador Ajit Gupta discussed the relevance of yoga today, its holistic health benefits, and its growing popularity in Germany.
In Denmark, the Sustainability Foundation and HHS Aarhus organized International Yoga Day, with Mayor Metin Aydin from the city’s health and senior care department also in attendance.
The Indian Embassy in Copenhagen stated, “This year’s theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’ makes this event even more significant.”
In Spain’s capital, Madrid, the 12th International Yoga Day was celebrated enthusiastically against the stunning backdrop of the Royal Palace and Plaza de Oriente. A large number of participants showcased the popularity of yoga and its universal message.
The Indian Embassy in Madrid reported that the ambassador addressed hundreds of attendees, stating that International Yoga Day, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has now become a global movement.
The ambassador highlighted yoga’s role in promoting unity and harmony worldwide and explained the importance of this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Aging.” The Deputy Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sports for the Madrid community, Luis Fernando Martín Izquierdo, was also present at the event.
In Hungary, International Yoga Day was celebrated at the Sports University Stadium in Budapest.
The Indian Embassy in Hungary noted on X, “Inspired by Prime Minister Modi‘s address from Kolkata, the Indian community, partner organizations, and friends from Hungary participated with enthusiasm. The ambassador emphasized that this year’s theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’ signifies that yoga not only adds years to our lives but also makes those years better, balanced, and meaningful.”
