Kolkata, June 21: The spokesperson for the West Bengal BJP unit, Keya Ghosh, launched a scathing attack on the TMC and its leaders on Sunday, addressing various issues.
In an interview with a news agency, Ghosh responded to recent statements made by TMC MP Mahua Moitra, stating, “Before commenting on electoral expenses and financial transparency, she should reflect on her political past.” Ghosh accused Moitra of speaking about ethics and transparency while being embroiled in controversies that have previously sparked national discussions.
Regarding Moitra’s questions about party-switching and political loyalty, Ghosh remarked, “After the 2021 assembly elections, many elected BJP legislators joined the TMC, and there was no criticism then. If more than two-thirds of a party’s representatives join another political party, the situation regarding anti-defection laws changes. The current comments from TMC leaders reflect their political unease.”
Previously, Mahua Moitra had targeted rebel TMC MPs, claiming that the BJP was merely using them to fulfill its political agenda. She warned that after the passage of the delimitation bill, these MPs would no longer be needed, jeopardizing their political futures. “Neither will these leaders win elections on TMC tickets in the future, nor will the BJP accept them,” she stated.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Ghosh also criticized the previous state governments. She noted, “Yoga has become a global movement, celebrated widely across the world. In West Bengal, the first Yoga Day did not receive the recognition it deserved.” She highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to West Bengal and the Yoga Day events, asserting that they enhanced the state’s reputation.
Ghosh claimed that people are experiencing change since the BJP came to power in the state. She alleged that during the previous administration, common citizens and businesses faced numerous challenges, whereas the atmosphere is now shifting, instilling new hope among the populace.
She also questioned TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee’s use of a private chartered plane for his trip to Delhi, stating, “As a public representative, there should be transparency regarding the funding for such an expensive journey.” Ghosh demanded an investigation into the matter.
Additionally, she welcomed the celebration of June 20 as ‘West Bengal Day,’ emphasizing that honoring the state’s cultural identity and historical heritage has long been sought. According to her, this day serves as an opportunity to remember Bengal’s traditions and pride.
