
New Delhi, June 21: A tragic ammonia gas leak at a seafood export unit in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu has resulted in the deaths of six individuals. Several others are currently receiving medical treatment under the supervision of doctors. Prime Minister Modi and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan have expressed their condolences regarding the incident.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister stated, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the incident in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”
President Droupadi Murmu also expressed her sorrow on X, writing, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the tragic deaths in a factory accident in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the grieving families. My prayers are with all those affected by this incident, and I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan shared his grief on X, stating, “I am very saddened by the tragic deaths resulting from the ammonia gas leak at a seafood export unit in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. My deepest sympathies are with the grieving families. I pray for the quick and complete recovery of those undergoing treatment. My thoughts are with all affected during this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Minister Aadhav Arjun visited the victims at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. Nine affected individuals have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Chennai facility.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has instructed officials to provide all necessary medical assistance to the affected workers. He has also ordered the formation of a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the causes of the leak.
The Chief Minister directed the panel to conduct an immediate inspection and submit a detailed report within 24 hours. The investigation is expected to examine safety protocols, maintenance processes, and potential shortcomings at the facility.
The police have registered a case, and further investigations are underway. Officials are also looking into whether violations of industrial safety regulations contributed to the incident.
