Jerusalem, August 24: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz convened a high-level review meeting to address the security threats posed by drones, balloons, and kites launched from the Gaza Strip. The meeting included the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, the head of the National Security Council, and senior officials from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Following the meeting, a joint statement was released warning Hamas that if the drone, balloon, and kite attacks do not cease immediately, the IDF will intensify targeted strikes against those responsible for these assaults.
The statement also indicated that populations in areas used for launching drones, kites, and balloons would be evacuated to facilitate effective action against terrorist activities.
Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized that the situation prior to October 7, 2023, must not be allowed to recur. He stated that Israel will not permit Hamas or any other elements in Gaza to pose a threat to its communities or compromise the sense of security for its citizens.
Earlier, Israel informed the United States that Turkey is preparing to deploy radar and air defense systems at the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in northwestern Syria. Israeli security officials believe this move could significantly alter the regional power balance.
On Tuesday, Israel conducted an airstrike on the Abu al-Duhur airbase. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the action was based on intelligence, as Turkey’s potential military deployment could pose a threat to Israeli security.
According to him, Syria was given a high-level diplomatic warning before the attack, but after receiving no response, the IDF was authorized to proceed with the operation.
