New Delhi, August 23: Lithuania’s Ambassador to India, Diana Mickeviciene, has described the India-EU trade agreement as a game changer in an interview with a news agency. She emphasized that this agreement will not only boost trade but also strengthen connections in technology, security, and among people.
Ambassador Mickeviciene noted that India and the Baltic countries share a century-old intellectual bond, asserting that peaceful demonstrations prove that truth is the most powerful weapon, ultimately leading to victory.
She stated, “Lithuania believes this is a game-changing agreement. It will enhance trade and strengthen transactions in technology, security, and various other sectors, including connections among people. Therefore, it is a game changer not just for bilateral relations but for the entire international trading system.”
The ambassador highlighted that discussions and peaceful demonstrations demonstrate that truth is the strongest weapon and that, in the end, truth will prevail.
Mickeviciene expressed satisfaction with the solid foundation of bilateral relations, emphasizing that this historical connection is a vital part of their partnership. She reflected on how closely linked they were even before the advent of the internet or aviation, with ideas spreading and people traveling, thereby reinforcing their ties.
“Today, we are indeed working towards building strong trade and economic cooperation. I am also pleased to say that the development of technological transactions and partnerships is a crucial part of this new phase in our relationship,” she added.
The Lithuanian ambassador pointed out that there is a rich history of intellectual exchange between Lithuania, other Baltic nations, and India, dating back nearly 100 years. This exchange began when Indian leaders were exploring the best ways to lead their emerging nation towards independence.
She acknowledged that their leaders engaged with Indian thinkers and leaders, believing that inspiration stemmed from these profound intellectual exchanges.
Mickeviciene remarked, “We live in a world filled with conflicts and aggressive wars. What we did 37 years ago is significant because it demonstrated how humanity can unite to deliver a message of peace. However, this is not merely a passive message of refusing to accept evil; it is about actively solving problems, opposing aggression, and strengthening human bonds in such a way that the aggressor has no justification left.”
Additionally, during an event, the ambassador expressed gratitude for the presence of attendees, stating, “Thank you for coming and being with us. It holds great significance for all of us. Without your presence and blessings, this opportunity would not be the same.”
She acknowledged the members of the board of the wonderful museum, Delhi government’s Secretary Dr. Mahesh, and all those she may have missed addressing personally, emphasizing the importance of their presence on this special day. She noted that August 23 is significant for the people of the Baltic countries, including Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Mickeviciene highlighted that Gandhi’s non-violent approach was one of the sources of inspiration for this movement, noting that the Baltic states’ struggle for independence is an incredible reflection of Gandhian principles.
