Ghaziabad, August 19: Two incidents of police encounters with criminals were reported in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday. A joint team of SWAT, surveillance, and local police engaged in a shootout with two suspected criminals during a routine check at Morati Tirahe in the Nandgram police station area. Both suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were subsequently arrested and sent to the district hospital for treatment.
According to ACP Ziauddin Ahmed from Nandgram, police received a tip-off indicating that some individuals involved in previous snatching and robbery incidents were planning to commit another crime in the area. Acting on this information, the police team initiated checks at Morati Tirahe. During this operation, they attempted to stop two suspicious individuals riding a motorcycle without a license plate.
The police claim that instead of stopping, the suspects fled and opened fire on the police team. In self-defense, the police returned fire, injuring both suspects in the legs. The injured suspects have been identified as Arif and Jubair. Police reports indicate that both have a prior criminal history and have been involved in robbery and snatching cases.
Authorities recovered two gold biscuits, two .315 bore pistols, cartridges, and a motorcycle from the suspects. The police are now investigating their criminal records to determine their involvement in other incidents.
In a separate incident, another police encounter occurred early Wednesday in the Bhojpur police station area. According to police, two suspects traveling from Modinagar to Bhojpur on a motorcycle were stopped for questioning. The suspects abandoned their motorcycle and fled into the fields, firing at the pursuing police team. In the ensuing exchange, both suspects were shot in the legs.
The arrested suspects were identified as Sagar Khan from Delhi and Shivam, also known as Damru, from Noida. During interrogation, they admitted to robbing an individual in a car while traveling from Partapur to Noida on July 28. Police recovered a stolen motorcycle, two pistols, six cartridges, a stolen laptop, cash, and personal documents from their possession. Legal action is being taken in both cases.
