Major Drug Bust in Gujarat: Two Arrested with ₹1 Crore Worth of Cannabis

Rajkot, August 19: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajkot police seized 204.9 kilograms of cannabis worth ₹1.02 crore from a truck near Bamanbor on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway. Two individuals were arrested during this operation, which was reported by police on Tuesday.

This action was part of a crackdown on the sale and transportation of narcotics ahead of the Janmashtami festival.

Based on intelligence that three people were transporting a shipment of cannabis in a truck, SOG teams were deployed near Bamanbor with technical assistance from the DCB police station.

The police stopped the vehicle and arrested Mohammad alias Kalo Sarwadi (26), who was living in a rented house in Wada Ahir, Rajkot district, and driver Arbaaz Sandhi (27), a resident of Bapa Sitaram Chowk in Rajkot.

Authorities stated that two other suspects, Rameez alias Mayo Razakbhai from Lodhwar in Rajkot and Amit alias Gurkho from Hadala near Momai Hotel on Morbi Road in Rajkot, are still at large.

According to SOG, Rameez allegedly promised the arrested individuals ₹20,000 per trip and sent them to Odisha to fetch the cannabis. Police reported that Amit arranged the shipment in Odisha and instructed both men to return to Rajkot with it.

Officials revealed that the seized narcotics weighed 204.9 kilograms, valued at ₹1,02,45,000. Additionally, three mobile phones, the truck, steel pipes, relevant e-way bills, and other documents were confiscated.

The total estimated value of the seized assets is ₹1,55,73,730. Authorities noted that information about this operation was received on August 17, when SOG officers learned that Rameez and the other suspect were transporting cannabis on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway.

Following surveillance, the police intercepted the truck. Both arrested individuals are currently in custody, and legal action has commenced under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Rajkot Airport police station.

Senior officials oversaw the operation, and a case has been registered following the seizure, while efforts to locate the two absconding suspects are ongoing.
