Beijing, August 23: China is rapidly enhancing its computing capacity. Efforts are underway to make computing devices more energy-efficient while also greening the infrastructure that supports computing power. Additionally, there is a growing synergy between computing and electricity. New areas of development are emerging, including computing networks, global expansion of computing capacity, and innovative business models in computing power.
This information was disclosed at the 2026 Green Computing Power Conference held in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on August 22. During the opening ceremony, Ao Li, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Information and Communications Technology, released the “Research Report on the Development of Green Computing Power 2026.”
According to the report, China is making significant strides in making computing devices more environmentally friendly. The energy efficiency of computing devices in the country is continuously improving. By the end of June 2026, China’s intelligent computing capacity reached 2185 EFLOPS. New technologies such as liquid cooling, high-speed optical interconnects, and new storage architectures are becoming essential for building high-density intelligent computing centers. This is promoting simultaneous improvements in the scale, performance, and energy efficiency of computing capacity.
Moreover, there has been consistent progress in expanding and greening the infrastructure for computing power in China. By the end of 2025, the number of operational standard racks across the country exceeded 13.73 million. Additionally, 42 intelligent computing clusters at the GPU level have been established. The intelligent computing capacity present in the eight major national hub nodes accounts for over 80 percent of the total capacity. Positive advancements have also been made towards green and low-carbon development in the computing sector, with over 160 data centers nationwide being certified as green data centers at level 4A or above.
